Press Release Summer End of Season 2022
The final semester of our choral year has been filled with highs and lows. The members of Millicent Singers, feeling inspired and reinvigorated after another successful Christmas concert, returned to the rehearsal room in January 2022. Musical director, Alan Kelly, was keen to work on vocal strength during this period, to get the choir back singing together to their pre-pandemic standard. To this end, the pieces of music being focussed on were a mixture of already known pieces from previous seasons and new pieces. The previously performed pieces were practiced again and honed to a high standard, while learning new pieces kept members challenged.
Due to ongoing restrictions and pandemic-related absences the choir had a challenging time maintaining full attendance at rehearsals.
With Millicent Singers going into its 26th year the members were determined to keep going, meeting every week and enjoyed the challenges and camaraderie of being part of this special group. However, the choir found that they had openings for new members in all sections. Before the season ended we wanted to turn our efforts to recruitment.
Friends, family, work colleagues were all canvassed and a large social media campaign raised a lot of interest.
The final two rehearsals of this Summer semester were open nights, where Millicent Singers were delighted to invite potential new members to a “taster” session, with the aim being to give people an opportunity to experience first-hand what it might mean to be part of our choir. Newcomers mingled with existing members, with Alan guiding everyone through a typical rehearsal – from vocal warm-ups, learning new music to performing together. The visitors seemed to thoroughly enjoy the events. We hope to see many of them returning as new members in the Autumn. It was a very positive finish to our choral season.
Auditions for new members take place on Tuesday, 31st May.
Please complete an online application form if you are interested in joining.
In the meantime, Millicent Singers is taking a Summer break. We will be back in late August rested, refreshed and ready for a great 2022-2023 season of song.
